Scientists Tried to Kill Spacecraft But It Was So Tough That It Refused to Die

While it was getting ready to power down its Gaia spacecraft, the European Space Agency encountered some unusual resistance. The spacecraft, which has been creating a highly detailed, three-dimensional map of more than a billion stars throughout the Milky Way and beyond, proved surprisingly difficult to kill.
