Energy startup Commonwealth Fusion Systems has announced that it will begin construction of the "world's first grid-scale" nuclear fusion power plant near Richmond, Virginia. The MIT spinout announced that it was "one step closer" to making fusion energy — fusing atoms together inside a reactor, much like the process that powers stars — a reality by making a multibillion-dollar investment in the plant.
